Cameron Birchall provides expert analysis and advice to clients on antitrust, competition, and regulatory issues, including the competitive and efficiency effects of proposed mergers and regulations.

Dr. Birchall’s antitrust experience covers mergers across industries including retail fuel , energy, and inshore fishing. In the regulatory space, he has advised clients across the telecommunications, electricity, and transport sectors. His work includes advising on topics such as innovation, incentive mechanisms, asset valuation, cost recovery, productivity assessment, capital expenditure incentives, and the necessary conditions to warrant deregulation. Dr. Birchall has also advised on market design and provided analysis to an agricultural cooperative on how different auctions would best allocate licenses for growing rights. His work has led to reports submitted to state and national regulators including the New Zealand Commerce Commission, Australian Energy Regulator, and Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.

Dr. Birchall has an academic background in empirical industrial organization. His thesis applied empirical models from industrial organization to problems in resource economics and retail markets. As a result, he has expertise in demand estimation, retail pricing, public choice problems, and the pricing of tradeable permits.
