Ryan Esplin is an energy economist who works with clients across the sector. His main areas of expertise are electricity market design, regulatory economics, and energy policy development. Dr. Esplin provides economic advice to public and private clients across the energy industry. His work involves utilizing sound economic principles and evidence to inform decision making in the energy sector. He believes robust economic analysis has the power to shape and guide decision making.

Prior to joining NERA, Dr. Esplin worked in economic consulting roles in Australia and as a Director at the Australian Energy Market Commission (the rule maker for Australia’s electricity and gas markets). In these roles, he worked on a number of projects relating to reliability, power system services, network regulation, and retail markets.

Dr. Esplin has peer reviewed publications in international academic journals such as The Energy JournalEnergy Policy, and Economic Analysis and Policy.
