NERA Economic Consulting is delighted to sponsor Paris Arbitration Week 2023 (PAW), which will take place between 27–31 March. In its seventh edition, PAW brings together the international arbitration community for a week of professional and academic debates. Last year, PAW drew more than 10,000 global participants. NERA will once again host two events this year—a webinar and an in-person seminar—as part of PAW’s robust programming.
On 28 March at 14:30 CET, NERA Associate Director Ralph Meghames will moderate a panel of experts—including NERA Managing Director and Chair of the Global Securities and Finance Practice Dr. Faten Sabry, Chartered Arbitrator Professor Dr. Georges Affaki, King & Spalding LLP Partner Samaa A. Haridi, and White & Case LLP Partner Samy Markbaoui—during the “Recent Trends in Financial Disputes in International Arbitration” webinar. The webinar will explore the specifics of cases and topics involving the financial industry in international arbitration from a legal and economic perspective, examining financial disputes and how to quantify damages. The panel will share their experience and insights to approach financial disputes in international arbitration.
The panel will also address:
- The benefits and limitations of international arbitration in the financial industry;
- Common cases involving financial instruments;
- Regional-specific disputes, including Islamic finance and crypto; and
- Damages and the quantum expert toolbox (the use of statistical analysis and event studies).
NERA’s in-person seminar will take place on 29 March at 14:30 CET and feature a discussion on calculating damages and lost profits.
