NERA Economic Consulting is delighted to support Paris Arbitration Week 2022 (PAW), which will take place virtually between 28 March and 1 April. In its 6th edition, PAW aims to bring together the international arbitration community for a week of professional and academic debates. Its last edition had over 35 official events and 6,300 global participants. NERA will once again host two webinars as part of PAW’s robust programming.

In this webinar, we examined international arbitration disputes surrounding intellectual property (IP) issues, which are increasing in frequency in lockstep with the rapid pace of innovation. Consequently, parties to these disputes rely heavily upon international arbitration to resolve issues arising from IP-related contractual claims.

On 1 April at 16:30 CET, Associate Director Ralph Meghames moderated a virtual roundtable with Head of NERA’s Global Transfer Pricing Practice Dr. Emmanuel Llinares, NERA Director Dr. Chris Stomberg, and Hogan Lovells Senior Associate Sam Zimmerman. The panel focused on the challenges faced by international arbitration practitioners handling IP-related disputes, specifically focusing on the life sciences industry, including:

  • The reasons behind the emergence of IP-related disputes;
  • The complexities for appraisers triggered by IP-related disputes;
  • The role of economists when assisting the tribunal in reaching conclusive decisions; and
  • The specific legal considerations in IP-related international arbitration.
